Netflix TFU Cult Exposed – Violated Guiding Principles for Healers

I’m watching the documentary on Netflix about Twin Flame Universe. It’s hitting me really hard. I was raised in a different cult. A Christian one. I know how it is to be manipulated, controlled, gaslit. I know how it tears families apart. And destroys people’s lives. when I saw the part about how people were coerced into transitioning and having surgery to change their body – it seems unbelievably extreme and yet I know this too. My sister was denied the spine surgery she required to have a normal life after surviving polio as a child because in the cult we were raised in – blood transfusions were not allowed.

It took me a long time to stop rebelling against Christianity as I escaped the cult of my childhood. And sadly I know people will rebel against twin flames as a spiritual understanding because it is so intertwined with this cult. I believe everything happens for a reason or at least in hindsight we will understand how these big awakening moments shift perspectives. And I’m sure this moment will shift something for many content creators and consumers of spiritual online content.

What has happened within TFU is something that will keep happening if we aren’t careful. People exploiting spiritual phenomenon, human nature and social media platforms for power and profit. Just as organized religion for decades and maybe centuries has provided and allowed environments fraught with abuse. It is important that we are each individually discerning. I’ve written about this before with other online spiritual teachers. We must always align with our own intuition and our own inner knowing. Self proclaimed shamans and gurus handing out un-solicited channeled messages and direction is an old paradigm template. It’s not the way forward. Religion has largely lost membership and people are leaning into their own wisdom. Being authentically aligned with our own hard “yes” or hard “no” is the only truth we can follow. Reading wisdom of others and checking in with our gut and heart to see if that wisdom resonates or not – before we engage in classes, paid experiences or other group formats. Before we get swept up by a negative pendulum (as identified in the book, Reality Transurfing. A book that is resonating with me in a big way currently).

I have researched twin souls over the past few years. I have found it very difficult to find good information. It’s not a very well understood spiritual phenomenon. In my research very recently, this year I came accross TFU. I saw some videos on YouTube and I ordered their book. The book had a couple of good parts that I noticed contained information that felt like what I wanted to hear. Noted. But also in some ways didn’t align or resonate with my experience as a twin soul. First, the book said that everyone has a twin flame. I don’t believe this is true. The book also directed people to attract or call-in their twin flame – like it was a goal. This also is very counter intuitive to me. No one can even understand what a twin flame is – unless they’ve met theirs and have a deep inner knowing and painful experience. It is a very challenging soul experience. Trying to explain it to anyone who hasnt had the experience is non sense. It’s a fairytale concept being sold as a dream come true in the context of TFU. When actually no one would would choose it, if they knew. My spirit guides described it as very challenging and difficult – not something to desire.

Twin souls are a very complex incarnation. Ra and The Law of One, I believe touches on what it is when describing dual activated 3rd and 4th dimensional beings. According to the channeled communications from Ra – There are souls who have completed 3D ascension, who have no karmic debt and who choose for their first 4th dimensional incarnation to come in a dual activation – one 3D and one 4D incarnation simultaneous – incarnating back in time to a 3D reality here on earth now. Another channeled message from a being or group of beings called Quo has indicated that the dual activated ( I believe twin flame) is present on the planet currently as 30% of the population up from about 7% in the original Ra channeling from the 1980s. We do seem to have crossed a threshold where there are more on the planet now and the term twin flame is more prevalent now. But still not everyone. And probably never everyone. Although it seems, it will be an option for more souls at this time as more reach and transcend from 3D into 4D vibration and consciousness. According to the Ra material.

When I read the book from Jeff and Shaelia, founders of TFU – it didn’t fully resonate. They say things that draw the reader in and they teach that everyone has a twin which was my first flag. But of course it’s such a complicated spiritual topic who could blame them for getting one part wrong? The other thing I noticed is that the book mostly focused on a mental excercise called the mirror excercise. Which seems like a good practice in general for self work and reflection but also didn’t seem like a tool that would solve the twin flame dilemma. And what I was noticing is that the supposed many twin flame couples who were in harmonious relationships on the TFU channel (which is nearly impossible) all gave a lot of credit to Jeff and shaelia and the book. But that didn’t seem warranted based on what I had read. (Now I know they were coerced). So a couple of red flags and also a friend who is a twin soul shared that he was triggered by reading their stuff online. I noticed that it wasn’t just me, another had a gut instinct that something was off. But never in my wildest imagination would I have expected any of what was shown in the Netflix documentary series as we got into the third episode – people being told to stalk their twins and use sex to lure them. Being told that anyone can have their twin identified for them – is crazy. And then assigning people to their twin and doing it within this closed community of mostly women to the point of telling women they were men and to change their name, pronouns and gender – is beyond shocking. Hearing the plans to create a compound and also about the unpaid labor and million dollar lawsuits to silence people, reminds me of other quasi religious groups that have been exposed as controlling and manipulative. Dangerous even.

When we created Woo Woo Wellness on Maui, as an online platform for healers, I received the sage advice right away that we needed to have a way to vet healers. To have a set of guiding principles that healers could indicate they would adhere to and that allowed for us to have boundaries or stakes in the ground for anyone we recommend to ensure the safety of our members. Those six guiding principles are on the Woo Woo Wellness website and are part of the Woo Woo Wellness healing brand strategy and are integral to our foundation as a platform.

I invite you to consider how we as healers and also purveyors of spiritual healing wisdom can agree on a code of ethics. I invite you to join the conversation about guiding principles and safety. We are organizing to host a round table virtual summit to discuss ethics in the independent spiritual community and I hope this open dialogue gains traction as a regular conversation as we all navigate a new landscape in the wake of this documentary and other scandals in spiritual circles. As we each support others to step into their own healing gifts and individual alignment, I expect there will be many opportunities for abuse by individuals who have online platforms. We each need to be diligent in our own discernment. And I believe also support vetting and self regulation. I hope Woo Woo Wellness can be a part of the solution.

In addition to abiding by the values adopted by Woo Woo Wellness for healers, I have a values statement on my website that I will update in light of this new scandal. I will continue to keep it updated whenever the landscape warrants. I hope all spiritual teachers will adopt their own statement and be transparent with their values on their sites. We should demand it as consumers.
