We live in the land of duality where people exist within a material realm that is connected to spirit but is for all intents and purposes, a distortion of who we really are. We aren’t actually material. We only identify as material when our conscious awareness goes to the edge of our being. That place where we experience the world through our five senses. That is the edge. The 5 sensory world is the edge. When we draw back from the edge, when we retreat inward – we rest in the conscious awareness of our soul. From the seat of our soul we observe the edge. We notice what our physical body senses but we stay in this separate perspective of our senses in the physical realm. We stay in the perspective of observer. And from this place of observing we can also notice thoughts arising. These thoughts are also from the edge. They are a reflex that is automatic. One that helps us navigate in the distortion of the material world to keep us alive. To solve problems and to sort awarenesses into categories and memory files that fit with the material world perceptions and programming. to make sense of the perceptions of our outward most expression.
If you were the Grand Canyon, would you live on the edge peering out from your vastness to the tourists who would peer in? Or would you retreat deep into the center and know that the edge exists? Maybe both. As people we have to know when to meet the world on the edge of who we are to them and also retreat into the vast dwelling place at the bottom of our canyon where the wellsprings of our essence can sustain us and protect us in peaceful flow. Where we are safe and unseen except by those few who would really get to know us deeply and venture into our depths beyond the edges.
People may experience the Grand Canyon as a north rim and/or south rim cavern. That is the duality of the Grand Canyon. But there is a third way. The way that reaches the middle in the center of the canyon and learns its paths and trails, flora and fauna from within.
Life is like this. We can exist only on the edges. Or we can balance that existence by retreating into our center. And from the center the perspective of both polarities is visible at once. The north and south rim are visible to the one who treks into the center. And this is the third way to perceive. When we practice perceiving in this way – we gain a wisdom that is more aligned with soul. We step out of duality. We hold two dichotomies in our conscious awareness at once. And this is the alchemy, the magic that transmutes all mind problems that need to be solved. The alchemy to restore health and wellness. Where the energy flows. You see at the edges we are out of alignment with who we are. we are as far from the perspective of our soul as we can be. And the farther out we are the more distortion we find in perceptions and in our experience of life and physicality.
